The Curiosity

Dixon calls off the search of the woods surrounding Sterling’s place after six hours. The men searched for every possible piece of evidence, but they didn’t recover much. If we haven’t discovered something substantial by now, we’re not going to, are his thoughts.

“Okay, men, let’s pack it in and get back to the station. Give whatever you’ve bagged and tagged to Summerton,” He shouts to those still in the woods, his voice carrying, bouncing off the trees and disturbing some nearby birds who take flight.

The men come in from the woods. They look haggard from the long day’s search. Words escape the Captain seeing the trivial amount of potential evidence. The case has them rattled. He secretly wishes for Sterling to return soon. God, please be with me on this one and let that man heal fast, he says a silent prayer as the last of the men come into view. Only one has an evidence bag.
